Technical Information / IT Difficulties - Webcasts
The webcast stream is a Windows Media stream, at 200k bps, with an aspect ratio of 16:9.
The stream uses standard IP ports, and if multimedia protocols are unavailable (RTSP and MMS), the stream would rollover to http: on port 8080.
If you have problems:
- If you are having issues viewing the webcast please try the direct link: http://video.strath.ac.uk/live.asx in your browser, or in a stand-alone video player, such as the free VideoLAN VLC player (available for a wide variety of operating systems).
- If you are having issues with the Mozilla Firefox built-in plugin, please download the plugin using the URL below:
http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Using%20the%20Windows%20Media%20Player%20plugin%20with%20Firefox
- If you still experience difficulties watching the webcast an audio only version is available at: http://audio.strath.ac.uk:8000/jisc.mp3
If you cannot get the stream, please do email us on info@jisclegal.ac.uk, giving us a little information on what you tried. This will help us plan in future.
Questions:
My institutions firewall prevents me seeing the webcast. What can be done?
Not a lot, alas. If you have broadband internet access outside the institution, this is one (not ideal) solution. Otherwise, video of the event will be available for download afterwards.
Can you tell us how to configure our firewall?
Unfortunately, we don't have this technical expertise to help you. You will need to find someone with knowledge of how to configure your firewall, and to allow the ports and protocols open as noted above.
Why is rollover to http not working?
Blocking of RTSP and MMS by your firewall may prevent rollover to http, or rollover to port 8080.
