Transfer and Use of Bibliographic Records: Regular auditing

Step 5. Regular auditing

Objective

To maintain the audit of compliance as an important institutional resource to support ongoing risk management and service optimisation.

Actions

  • Assign staff responsibilities for maintaining the information, negotiating new licences with suppliers, proposing new bibliographic record activities and for conducting repeat audits. Ensure that communication lines between these staff is established.
  • When planning new services check that they comply with the law and with the contracts that you have with the suppliers of bibliographic records. The planning process may be a good time to reflect more generally on the licences you have for the use of bibliographic records.
  • Assess all new contracts against current activities in the compliance audit BEFORE they are signed - if the licence terms do not meet your requirements, take appropriate action.
  • Publicise the compliance audit to staff with related responsibilities.
