ISP Liability on Copyright Infringement

The New Zealand government’s controversial proposal that internet service providers (ISPs) cut off users repeatedly accused of copyright infringement has been shelved once again, this time for a month. The proposed clauses would force ISPs to terminate users’ accounts if they received a notice of infringement, even if this was only an accusation. Despite ongoing heated debate here in the UK regarding this issue, the current position remains that institutions should continue to have a system in place to respond effectively and appropriately to any notice of copyright infringement.
