Data Sharing Bill Goes Too Far
The Coroners and Justice Bill has been heavily criticised by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for having weak safeguards, wide provisions and the potential to threaten our privacy. The proposals allow Government departments to share information with private companies and contractors, but do not allow the ICO to impose penalties for inappropriate use. The ICO also proposes additional safeguards to prevent law being changed solely through public policy, and further clarity on certain definitions within the Bill.
