Any individual staff member involved in moderating interactive websites that are likely to be used by children or vulnerable adults must not have been barred from working with children, according to the UK Government. New laws will take effect from 12 October 2009 and any institution that knowingly disregards this could be guilty of a criminal offence. FE or HE institutions should consider registering such staff with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) to determine if they are on any banned list.
