The UK based European Scrutiny Committee which monitors EU activity for potential impact on UK law has stated that the results of the review of the framework are politically and legally significant to the UK. The committee has identified at least five pieces of existing UK legislation which may need to be amended as a result. These include the Communications Act 2003 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (S.I. 2003/2426). Further scrutiny of the framework and its constituent draft directives will now progress with a possible view to formal UK consultations and legislative change.
