This paper provides a useful introduction to certain areas of law relevant to the establishment, development and administration of online repositories in further and higher education. It is intended to provide introductory discussion material, and as an aid to exploring the legal issues in more depth. At the outset, it should be stated that there are a number of secondary legal issues (such as freedom of information requests in relation to repository holdings) which are not covered.
