Scotland Announces New Measures to Support Disabled Students
The new measures announced today include procedures for those who do not fall within the existing criteria for the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA). Students not meeting the existing criteria for help, but whose application is supported by the institution will have their cases reviewed as quickly as possible by an expert group. The DSA is formed of three main elements which includes an equipment allowance and non-medical help allowance. Institutional purchases of assistive technology are often tied to the needs of named students through their personal DSA grant. Institutions are reminded that they have an obligation to support students with disabilities, under SENDA 2001.
