Lawyers for the Hollywood duo Universal and Warner Bros are suing a European web video start up that they claim is illegally profiting from broadcasting their movies online. The site rebroadcasts a number of television stations live online and the lawyers claim that the website is adding advertising to films that are shown on German TV via its peer-to-peer service. For institutions that wish to use such broadcasts online should ensure that they have a an appopriate copyright clearance procedure in place and get permission from the copyright owner or a licence before rebroadcasting and communicating third-party content to the public.
