Lancashire County Council were found to be in breach of the Data Protection Act after sensitive personal data relating to social work records were found in a filing cabinet subsequently bought by a member of the public. The council is now taking action to prevent such a situation re-occurring and has signed an undertaking to this effect. Institutions are reminded that it's not just digital records that are covered by data protection, indeed print-off's must be dealt with appropriately too.
