On the 1st October 2009 a new notification rate of £500 was introduced. It applies to data controllers of larger organisations, in particular, those with a turnover of £25.9 million and 250 or more members of staff. It also applies to public bodies with 250 or more members of staff. The effect is that FE and HE institutions that are not charities and which have 250 or more members of staff or a have a turnover of £25.9 million - will be required to pay the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) an annual notification fee of £500.
