Plugging Data Leaks in US

Data security research carried out by an email security company in the US found that 38% of companies surveyed paid employees to monitor outgoing email.  The companies also reported an increase in investigations and enforcement actions where confidential or valuable data was leaked through email, blogs and social networking within the workplace.  Some companies blamed the economic situation and felt that, where staff were being laid off,  there was a corresponding increase in the risk of data leakage.  In considering their enforcement, institutions are reminded to ensure all email, internet usage and disciplinary policies are up to date, consistent, compatible and that all students and staff are fully aware of their content.  To access the full article, please go to: http://www.out-law.com/default.aspx?page=10290.
