The University of Glasgow offer to license the use of IP created by academic researchers without royalties, where there is a 'local socio-economical benefit' to companies, according to Professor Cullen, Glasgow's director of research and enterprise. The licence is granted on a case by case basis and will allow companies to use IP where they can provide a benefit to the community, such as employment. The research council has concluded that this approach is in line with their research grant conditions.
