University IP for Free

The University of Glasgow offer to license the use of IP created by academic researchers without royalties, where there is a 'local socio-economical benefit' to companies, according to Professor Cullen, Glasgow's director of research and enterprise.  The licence is granted on a case by case basis and will allow companies to use IP where they can provide a benefit to the community, such as employment.  The research council has concluded that this approach is in line with their research grant conditions.  For more information on this story, please refer to: http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/story.asp?sectioncode=26&storycode=407376.
