Encrypt All Laptops Containing Personal Data - ICO

The ICO has concluded that password protected laptops, stolen from locked premises, lacked adequate security measures.  The Highland Council was found to have breached the Data Protection Act and has now signed a formal undertaking to encrypt all mobile devices that contain the personal data of individuals.  Institutions should be aware that any security measures must be deemed adequate to prevent the loss of personal data where that loss may cause damage or distress to individuals.  For the full article, please refer to - http://www.out-law.com/page-10190.
