The Court of Appeal have upheld an earlier ruling by the High Court granting the right to patent a piece of software. The decision goes against the view of the UK Intellectual Property Office who strongly objected to the application. Experts believe that a move such as this could open the floodgates for more software patents in the UK. Software patents are more common place in the US and in Europe.
