An article in the Guardian newspaper ( 05 March 2013) reports that the proposed Defamation Bill is set to disappear from the UK parliamentary process and thus no longer expected to become law. Jisc Legal previously reported on the Bill in Oct 2011 as relevant to the education sector in particular as the draft Bill provided for qualified privilege to be extended to fair and accurate reports of academic and scientific conferences and there was an additional proposal under consideration to extend this to peer-reviewed articles in scientific and academic journals.
