The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has produced guidance to aid understanding and application of freedom of information legislation for higher education institutions, with a particular focus on research information. The purpose of the guidance is to provide advice relating to the law as it currently stands - the exemptions and exceptions in FOIA and EIR can provide a reasonable level of protection for research information, when there is genuine need to protect it. The guidance aims to increase academics’ and researchers’ understanding and equip practitioners to deal with the distinctive challenges that freedom of information legislation can pose for HE institutions. Further details of the guidance can be accessed on the ICO website at - http://t.co/TlGGFXZS.
