The Information Commissioner has ordered the Cabinet Office to disclose the details of 24 individuals earning over £150,000 per year. Initially, the Cabinet Office attempted to withold this information under the exemptions in
s.40 (personal information) and
s.41 (confidential information), but the ICO has decided that neither applied to the request in question under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Colleges and universities should be aware of the increasing likelihood of disclosure being required for the purposes of accountability in relation to high earners. Access the ICO’s
decision notice for full information on this case.
