More than 70% of UK employees admitted to data theft in a recent survey, which also revealed that many companies have insufficient safeguards in place to prevent it. The survey of 1,000 employees, conducted by security firm Imperva, found that information theft took many forms, and often occurred as a result of widespread ignorance about the law, with many employees believing they were entitled to act as they did. The survey highlights the need for colleges and universities to ensure they have both adequate safeguards on their data security, and clear policies in place regarding data protection.
