Proposed Amendments to UK Interception Laws

A short, targeted consultation in respect of two specific changes to the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) to address an incorrect transposition of European Directives is being run by the Home Office.  The changes concern informed consent when both parties consent to their communications being intercepted and the creation of a sanction for unintentional unlawful interception.  The consultation will run until 17 December 2010.  Furhter details on the Home Office website at - http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/publications/consultations/ripa-effect-lawful-intercep/.
