A final-year computer science student at University College London has been fined £300 for 'bringing the college into disrepute' through the contents of his site, FitFinder. Rich Martell founded FitFinder, a site that allowed students from UCL and 50 other universities to anonymously post status updates (or flirtatious messages) when they see someone attractive on campus. The site is not hosted on UCL-servers and had over 4 million hits in its first month. Mr. Martell has temporarily shut down the site until he has assurances that he will graduate this summer. He plans to re-launch the site upon his graduation. Whilst UCL does not have hosting liability in this situation, issues of e-Safety and Safeguarding would be important for HE and FE institutions in similar situations to consider.
