The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) gives a right of access to information held by 'public authorities'. Most UK colleges and universities are public authorities. The FOIA covers all records and information held by a public authority, whether digital or print, current or archived.

The Protection of Freedoms Act, 2012 achieved royal assent on 01 May 2012.
Names of Junior Staff Investigating Complaints not Personal Data

The Information Rights Tribunal recently ruled that the names of three junior members of staff who dealt with complaints made to the Financial Services Authority should have been disclosed as part of a Freedom of Information request.  
ICO Decision on Use of Private Email Goes to Appeal

The Department for Education is to appeal the ICO decision which ordered Michael Gove to release information contained in private emails.
