Principal Legal Information Specialist
John is Principal Legal Information Specialist with JISC Legal and is a solicitor with a background in commercial publishing.
John studied law at King's Inns Dublin, the University of Sydney and the College of Law in London. His work experience includes editorial training with Reed Elsevier before taking on the job of helping to progress JISC Legal from a JISC funded project to a core JISC Service now part of JISC Advance.
John’s particular specialism includes intellectual property law as well as liability in general in the education context and the extent to which FE and HE institutions owe a duty of care to users in the IT environment. He also specialises in copyright licensing, online defamation, privacy rights and freedom of information as well as how the law deals with illegal and inappropriate content in the online environment.
